I love you. I just wanted you to know in case you hadn’t picked up on it already and had no way of knowing other than going online and reading my blog. Congratulations on learning how to read, by the way.
Maybe you can’t read this yourself yet, but you are learning new things every day. Last week in Miami, Grandma taught you how to clap. You now clap for everything that excites you. Or upsets you. Or bores you. You really like to clap.
You just learned to wave this weekend. When I wake up in the morning and you are already awake, quietly contemplating the curtains, I look over and say “hi” and you look up at me and smile your four toothed smile and wag your little wrist. Sometimes that wrist seems to have a mind of its own but eventually you even it out into a smooth controlled wave. And I melt.
You look just like your daddy. You are bald and all muscle, and your smile makes my heart flutter. Your top teeth are coming in one at a time, so your smile is a little crooked and gummy and oh so very delicious. Daddy has a full set of teeth, but your smiles are both like sunshine to me.
Today you went to the pediatrician. They weighed you just like they did five weeks ago. And in that time you have gained a pound and a half! We are so proud of you! Your cheeks are starting to fill out and so are your arms and legs that you use to crawl all over the house with. You are fast, and can even chase down your brother when he has something you want. Which is often, because you seem to think everything he has is really, really cool.
Your laugh makes me laugh. It is delightful, like you. You can say, “Mamamamamama” and say it to me when you are reaching your arms up for me to pick you up. You have been patient with me while I got through school, content to nurse on my lap while I studied and eager to greet me when I came home from a long day of work and classes. I feel guilty that I could not devote every second of every day to you, but I feel fortunate that you have never thought less of me for it.
In short, you’re alright kid. I love you. Just wanted you to know.
Love,
Mamamamamamama
