After all of the packing, preparing, cleaning, repacking, shopping, cleaning and repacking again, I am absolutely worn out. We are headed out tomorrow morning for our great adventure into the Tetons, at the god forsaken hour of 6 ayem. That is to say we will be on the road at six, which technically means I have to be awake before that. Naturally, this was not my idea. The logic is that the campgrounds in the Badlands start to fill by midday, and since they don’t take reservations, we’ve got to get a jump on things, or we won’t get a campsite. Logic. Bah.
Chris has promised to make gallons of coffee and to take the first driving shift. In turn, I have promised not to scowl too much or call him a lot of bad words.
Despite my best efforts to put off packing until the last possible minute, I dolefully packed my bags today. I hate packing early. It goes against my very being. (By definition, packing early is packing anytime before your spouse starts honking the horn.) I also made a basic biscuit mix that we will use while camping to make pancakes, biscuits and other stuff you make with “Bisquick” like mixes. This is contingent on us having a fire, so we’ll see how this turns out. I cleaned the apartment, made a quiche for the road, and fretted over the lack of space for all of my stuff.
Me: Yes, I do need twelve shirts and eight pairs of pants, five pair of shoes and a hair dryer, actually. Why is the trunk so full? What is this thing over here and why are we bringing it?
Him: Our tent. Because we’re sleeping in it.
Me: Look, it’s taking up way too much space. Where are my hair curlers going to go?
Him: We’re going camping. Leave your hair curlers home.
Me: O.k., fine, but what about my Chia Pet?
Him: (Runs out of room screaming like hair is on fire)
Me: So… is there space or what?
Like I said, there isn’t a whole lot of space for my stuff, so tonight while Chris is sleeping, I guess I’ll have to repack the trunk. I’m sure he’ll appreciate the lighter load when he is carrying everything on his back up the mountains.
So, once we get back I’ll post again and will share my adventures and pictures of the Tetons. Until then, this site may be fairly quiet, but look for me again on August 20. See you then!
