Breadwinner

Or more accurately, breadchampion. Chris has surpassed me in the baking department. This morning I woke up to the irresistible smell of bread baking. Chris had just pulled out four loaves of perfect sourdough bread from the oven. Perfectly risen, perfectly golden, perfectly well, perfect. If I sound impressed, I am. If I sound jealous… I am.

I have dabbled in sourdough for years. I make the starter, I use it to make quasi-sourdough like bread, I kill the starter. I forget to feed it, usually. But, more importantly, I have never successfully made a loaf with just the starter for a rising agent (i.e. using no store bought yeast). He did. Twice.

So what do you do when your spouse does something far better than that thing that has been your domain for so long? You sigh, you spread butter and jam on that fresh bread and you smile in deep gratitude.

Everybody needs a Chris. But this one's mine.

  1. Sounds like me the first time Julio cleaned the bathroom early in our marriage. Sparkling like I've never made it sparkle! Hmmm...that's something that needs to go back on his list of duties...:)
Good job, Chris! I'll need a taste next time!
