A friend of mine just posted that on Facebook, and it seemed like a good time to chime in and second that. Busy was so mid-twenties and fresh out of college with something to prove and a fake tan. This year, I'd like to say "No" more often: to requests to help on projects that I just can't manage, to social functions that will take time away from my kids, to bad coffee. Especially to bad coffee that I am drinking to stay up late working on projects that are taking time away from my kids and that I just can't manage anyway.
And now, a personal note between Busy and me:
Busy, you and I are breaking up. You know how sometimes when people are breaking up they're all like, "It's not you, it's me"? It's not really like that for me. You suck. We've been together for way too long, and you are draining my life energy. For a while, I wanted to be around you because when we were together, I thought people liked me more. When we were first together, I even felt more important than others who weren't with you. Now I realize that you were kind of a jerk all along and that you would take all of my time if I let you, without ever giving me a shoulder rub or a nice pair of mittens or anything in return. I realize too, that people like me for me, not because you and I are together. So, take your guilt trips and your calendar requests and your nagging and find a fresh college grad to harangue.
Also, I want my sweater back. Thanks.
love it! i had broken up with busy this summer, but seems we're back together. I'm trying my best not to glorify it, though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would like some prints of the pictures from your sidebar, if that's possible. They are awesome!
